Carbon Footprint Audit
Thank you for embarking on this sustainable journey with us.
This website provides step-by-step guidance, instructions and access to the materials.
The Carbon Footprint Audit is part of the Waves of Change project . This project is funded by the Marine Institute and aims to promote sustainable development and behaviour change through ocean literacy. The next pages will provide clear instructions for you to successfully reduce your carbon footprint.
The objectives of this self-assessing audit are:
Learn about waste and electricity consumption in Irish households and
Through the process, decrease your waste and electricity footprint
How to complete your Carbon Footprint Audit (CFA)?
The CFA includes four main tasks:
A one time energy audit, which can be conducted over a weekend of your choice
A two week waste audit, which can be conducted at any time. We would recommend not to do the two activities at the same time
Three surveys
a. A perception survey at the start of the audit
b. A short follow-up after 6 months
c. A final survey after 1 year
4. Filling the CFA database
At the start of the CFA, you will receive a kit that includes:
1. A paper version of the first survey. This survey can also be done online, if you prefer so
2. A notebook for your notes
3. An energy monitor like the one in the figure
4. Your first one4all voucher, valued in €75
5. A project tote bag
To facilitate the tasks and explain how we are going to conduct some of the activities across the year, the research team will organise a workshop/webinar at the beginning of the process. This workshop will also serve to arrange the delivery of the kits.
We do not need in contact with all the members of your family, in fact we would prefer to communicate with the person that registered. Nonetheless, we highly encourage that you do the tasks as a family.
Access to the materials
We have divided the materials into three main themes. Please bear in mind that you do not have to do everything in one go. This audit is designed to be reflective practice where you and your family take time to think and reflect on the tasks ahead.
Energy footprint
Waste and energy database
The research team will upload more materials after the training is concluded and the first set of surveys and data are collected. A paper copy of each of the items above is already available in your kit.
You will receive the second €75 One4All voucher, upon the completion of the third survey.
